The short answer

Databox is purpose-built for marketing and performance teams. If you need quick dashboards pulling from Google Ads, HubSpot, and Facebook with pre-built templates, goal tracking, benchmarking against industry peers, and AI-generated performance summaries — and you have a handful of data sources — it gets you up and running fast. The 130+ connectors, template library, free plan, and AI summaries are genuine strengths.

But if you're connecting more than a few sources, need SQL for custom analysis, want row-level security for clients, or need white-label dashboards with custom domains — you've hit the edges of what Databox is designed for. DashboardFox gives you unlimited data sources, full SQL support, and enterprise security features starting at $99/month — about half the price of Databox's Team plan, with white-label already included.

TL;DR — The key differences

  • Unlimited data sources Databox caps data sources by plan — 5 on Analyst, 10 on Team Core ($199/month), 30 on Team Scale ($399/month). DashboardFox includes unlimited data connections in every plan.
  • Live SQL, not synced metrics Databox can pull SQL query results into its metrics (Analyst and up), syncing at most hourly. DashboardFox is built on SQL — query your database live, use stored procedures (Growth+), or use the no-code semantic layer.
  • Row-level security included Databox doesn't offer row-level security. DashboardFox includes Data Tags and dynamic RLS in every plan.
  • Pay for active users, not seats Databox's Team Core plan includes 3 users and Team Scale 10 — unlimited users only come with Agency or Custom. DashboardFox prices by monthly active users, so occasional viewers don't fill up your plan.
  • White-label included Custom domains and full branding control in every DashboardFox plan. Databox charges $80/month extra for white-label (logo, colors, domain).

Which one is right for you?

We're not going to pretend we're better in every scenario.

Choose DashboardFox if:

  • You need more data sources than a Databox plan allows, without moving up a tier
  • You want to write SQL queries, use stored procedures, or build a semantic layer
  • You need row-level security for multi-tenant or client-facing analytics
  • You've outgrown marketing-focused templates and need deeper analytics
  • You want white-label dashboards with custom domains included in every plan
  • You need a display mode for office TVs with secure auto-refresh

Choose Databox if:

  • You're a marketing team that needs quick dashboards from Google Ads, HubSpot, Facebook, etc.
  • You want pre-built templates that work out of the box for common marketing metrics
  • You have a handful of data sources and hourly syncs are fresh enough
  • You value goal tracking, benchmarking against industry peers, and AI-generated performance summaries
  • You want a free plan to start (1 user, 3 data sources)
  • Speed of setup matters more than analytics depth

Not sure we're the right fit? Before you decide, here's where we fall short for some teams. See the full breakdown →

  • No pre-built SaaS or marketing connectors — Databox's strength is 130+ pre-built connectors for Google Analytics, Facebook Ads, HubSpot, and Salesforce. We're a SQL database tool; any SaaS data needs developer credentials and OAuth2 configuration.
  • Mobile experience is being rebuilt — if mobile-first dashboards are a primary use case, we're not there yet.

A company connecting 8 data sources — CRM, marketing, support, databases — that needs white-label and security.

Team Core + white-label

$99/month vs $279/month — and that's with Databox on annual billing. Need more than 3 people on it? Team Scale ($399/month) raises the cap to 10 users and 30 sources, before the white-label add-on. Databox still has no row-level security at any tier.

Databox Team Core is $199/month on annual billing ($249 monthly) with 10 data sources and 3 users; white-label is $80/month extra. Databox replaced its Professional, Growth and Premium plans in 2026.

We'll rebuild your top dashboards so you're not starting from scratch — talk to the people who built it.

Your BI vendor changed. We didn't.

Most teams find us after their reporting vendor changed on them: a big price hike, an acquisition, support that stopped answering, a roadmap that stalled. We've helped teams move off Izenda, Crystal Reports, SSRS, Logi and others — and we've been competing with billion-dollar BI vendors since 1999.

  • Built for the long haul. Bootstrapped and independent, with no investors pushing for an exit. Many customers have been with us for over 10 years.
  • Pricing that doesn't ambush you. Published, flat pricing. No per-seat creep, no surprise renewal hikes, no paywalled security features.
  • You talk to the people who built it. No tier-one queue, no outsourced support. The engineers who wrote the code answer.
  • Upgrades keep your reports working. We ship weekly, and every report you've built carries forward.

Common questions

DashboardFox fox mascot
Databox's free plan is a good way to try marketing dashboards: 1 user, 3 data sources, daily sync. Once you need more people, more sources, fresher data, or white-label, you're on a paid plan — $199/month on annual billing for Team Core (3 users, 10 sources), plus $80/month for white-label. DashboardFox starts at $99/month with unlimited data sources, or you can try DashboardFox free for 7 days (extend to 14), full features, no credit card required.
Yes — from the Analyst plan up, Databox connects to databases and warehouses like BigQuery and MySQL, and you can write a custom SQL query to build a metric. The results are synced into Databox (at most hourly) rather than queried live. DashboardFox queries your database live and lets you write raw SQL, call stored procedures, and build semantic layers on top of your database — which gives you far more control over complex queries and transformations.
It depends on where your data lives. If your marketing data flows into a database or data warehouse, DashboardFox connects directly and you build new dashboards on that data. If you rely entirely on Databox's direct SaaS connectors (pulling from Google Ads, HubSpot, etc. without a warehouse), you'll need to set up a data pipeline to a database first. That's a one-time setup, but it's an extra step.
Not in the same way Databox does. Databox has pre-built templates for common marketing metrics that work out of the box with their 130+ SaaS connectors. DashboardFox is database-first — you build dashboards from your data, which gives you more flexibility but requires more initial setup. If pre-built marketing templates are your primary need, Databox has a clear edge there.
Every plan, including Starter, includes two-factor sign-in (authenticator app, email code, or text message), screening against known-breached passwords, account lockout after repeated failures, and an audit trail of every sign-in and admin action. Session-token SSO lets users sign in from your own app. Scale and above add Duo, text messages through your own SMS provider, and header-based SSO. Native SAML/OIDC is in development. We don't hold a SOC 2 report — we're upfront about that — but we routinely pass customers' own security assessments, and a BAA is available on any plan with the Compliance Tier. Not yet — and we're deliberate about that. We watched the first wave of "AI BI" produce hallucinated column names and misread data models. We're getting our core semantic layer right first. AI is coming soon: query building in plain language, visualization suggestions, and analysis on your outputs. Model-agnostic — we're not locking into one provider. We'll ship it when it actually works, not when it makes a good headline.
Yes — if your marketing data lands in a database or warehouse. Many companies use tools like Fivetran, Airbyte, or Stitch to sync marketing data (Google Ads, HubSpot, Facebook) into a data warehouse. Once it's there, DashboardFox can query it alongside your operational data, giving you a unified view across marketing and business data with full SQL control.
Databox now caps users by plan: 1 on Analyst, 3 on Team Core, 10 on Team Scale. Unlimited users come with the Agency and Custom plans. DashboardFox charges by monthly active users (MAU), so occasional viewers only count in the months they log in. If you're broadcasting dashboards to a large view-only team, Databox's Agency plan or our Display Mode for office screens may be the better fit — compare both against your real user count.
We source all Databox pricing from their publicly available pricing page and help center, last verified October 2026. Prices shown are for annual billing unless noted. Databox replaced its plan lineup in 2026, so older comparisons you find online may quote retired plans. Pricing, tiers, or features may change at any time — we recommend verifying at databox.com/pricing.
