Natural Language Generation (NLG)

Natural Language Generation, or NLG, is a type of artificial intelligence that turns data into plain English, making it easier for people to understand complex information. It’s like having a translator who can take numbers and facts and explain them as if they were telling a story. This technology is particularly useful in business intelligence and data analytics because it can automatically write reports or summaries, saving businesses a lot of time and effort.

For example, an NLG system might take sales data and create an easy-to-read analysis that says something like, “Sales have increased by 10% this quarter compared to the last, with the most significant growth seen in our electronics department.” It does this without any human help, by following rules and structures of language to turn raw data into sentences.

NLG tools help companies share insights across the organization by generating human-like explanations of data findings. This not only makes it faster to get valuable information to decision-makers but also ensures that everyone in the company can understand what the data means, even if they aren’t data scientists. It’s about bridging the gap between numbers on a screen and actionable business knowledge.
